A few weeks ago I was able to take a fun weekend trip to New York City with my friends. I can't even begin to tell you how much fun with had. We cruised through the city by foot, trying to soak in every moment we could. Friday, we dressed up so we could see Newsies on Broadway, (which by the way, was awesome.) After the show, we still didn't stop. If you want to get technical, we never went to sleep on Friday. Times Square is like Vegas, 'East Coast Style'. All the shops were open until the wee hours of the morning. And, you can't NOT go into the M&M Store if it's open, I mean really?! So, we walked back to our hotel in the early morning, nibbling on chocolate. Perfect night if you ask me.
Our race came quickly the next morning and we hopped in a Taxi for the ride of our lives. I really think everyone needs to experience a NYC Taxi at least once in their life. Quoting the movie 'Elf', "Watch out for the yellow ones, they don't stop." He's right, they don't stop, in fact, they speed up. I would say that riding the Taxi was more like a ride at an amusement park. Gratefully we made it through the ride and the race. Phew. The race was a challenge after a late night on the town, but so fun. These ladies were an inspiration for me during this race. They taught me that you can finish ANY race, no matter how hard or challenging. They didn't let a sprained ankle or migraine get in their way of crossing the finish line.
The rest of the weekend was spent on foot or by Subway, touring through the streets of NYC. We were able to see some awesome museums for basically free, which was a nice bonus. The museums had everything from modern art, to Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Monet, Ancient Mummies, and we even saw the actual Dead Sea Scrolls. It was incredible to see the writings of Isaiah on animal skins from 1,000s of years ago. Amazing.
We tasted everything like fresh apples off the Famers Market, hot dogs and pretzels (of course), and the tasty Meatball Shop. Yum! All that was topped it off with the Magnolia Bakery with gourmet cupcakes that made us drool just looking at them. Good thing we ran a race to help burn off all we ate.
Ahhh..New York!
A city that definitely never sleeps or stops.
So much to see, do, taste, and if I might add...smell. Ha! I love NYC. I could return again and again. Though, I must say, the best part of the whole trip was not the 'Big Apple', but the people I was with.
The memories made were priceless. Thanks ladies for a great time and a BIG THANKS to Brett for taking the girls and giving me a fun getaway with friends.
