Our sweet Katelyn Jane turned ONE on December 16th. We celebrated her birthday just before we headed to Utah for my brothers wedding. The biggest event of her celebration was the cake. It was fun to watch her get excited as Brett held it out for her to see. She started kicking her legs and flapping her arms as when she realized this treat was for her. Somehow she knew exactly what she was in store. Earlier in the day she had stretched her arm to the side of her high chair and stolen a cupcake from the counter when Daddy wasn't watching. She managed to eat the entire thing before anyone noticed, including the wrapper. The only evidence was the crumbs all over her face and the big grin. The second cupcake was no different, she devoured it in 5 minutes flat with few crumbs left behind. Sadly, I accidentally deleted ALL the pictures from her birthday celebration. (Lame of me to do, I know. Hopefully in the next week we will try and retake a cupcake picture so she has some evidence of how excited she was.)
Happy 1st BIRTHDAY Kate! We love you.
Our little walker.
Dear Kate,
You are now a whole year old. Wow! I can't believe how quickly the time has passed. We can't imagine our little family without you and we love you so very much. It has been a big year of milestones. It has been exciting to watch you change. We love it when you celebrate your victories by clapping your hands and shaking your head up and down in approval. You started as a tiny newborn in January and were walking around the house like a little toddler by December. Phew. We were in Utah when you officially started walking and Pops deemed your fragile steps as 'The Frankenstein Walk'. You would put both hands in front of you and toddle forward as you tried to learn your balance.
We can already tell that you have a whole lot of determination and a sense of adventure. You are a girl on the go. There isn't a moment you want to miss. I have found it difficult to even get you dressed because you have an agenda and don't want to stop. We now basically have to pin you to the floor in order to get you ready for the day. I have a feeling that you will keep me very busy this upcoming year as you take advantage of your full mobility.
Some of your favorite things are your pink bunny, bananas and milk. You love to nuzzle your face into the pink bunny and drag him around by his floppy ear. And, you could eat bananas and milk all day if I let you. With bananas, I can't quite tell which you love more, the taste OR the squishy mess you like to make.
These past few months have been fun to watch as you learn to communicate and play with your sister. The other day, as I was doing laundry, I caught a brief moment of you toddling down the hall holding your sisters hand. Those moments make a mothers heart melt. With this communication, you are also learning to defend yourself in toy battles with Abby. I'm nervous to see what these battles will turn into when you are both teenagers. (Hopefully those won't happen, right?!)
I think you are going to become quite the talker, as you already babble constantly as you wander through the house. Lately, I will find you holding the remote control to the side of your face and talking into it like a phone. You love being part of the crowd and just jabbering away.
Most of all, we love our Kate kisses and cuddles. You are a cuddly baby and we are just savoring it. When you hear the word 'kiss', you open up you mouth wide and lay a big wet kiss on the cheek of whomever is next to you.
We love and adore you and can't wait to see what this year brings.
Happy Happy Birthday Kate! One whole year.
Hugs and Kisses.
Love,
Dad and Mom
